Macmillan Cancer Support

Information for General Practitioners

Welcome to the GP section of our website, the pages on the left hand side will guide you to all information specifically tailored to the needs of our primary care colleagues.

The referral proformas page details information on NICE referral guidelines (with local interpretation) and the full range of local referral pro-formas for all Acute Trusts within our Network

The Primary Care Audit page details the background to the Primary Care Cancer Audit, together with the final Greater Midlands report. 161 practices across the 8 PCTs in GMCN took part in the audit covering just over 1 million patients. Any GP wishing to view their local PCT report can do so by contacting Dr Bruce Eden at bruce.eden@wolvespct.nhs.uk

Practice profiles for cancer were published for every practice in England in October and added to in December 2010. The profiles give practice specific data about cancer incidence, 2 week wait referral numbers and conversion rate, screening data, information about the referral route prior to diagnosis and a range of other indicators. Practices are also able to compare themselves with their PCT colleagues and the England mean for each indicator.

Practices can access their individual profile by contacting Bruce Eden at bruce.eden@wolvespct.nhs.uk. The “helpful hints” page leads to national key messages to aid early diagnosis, and “hot tips” from local Consultants to improve appropriate referrals and investigations.

Other links will enable GPs and others to download information sheets about all aspects of cancer care from cancer charity websites and from sites aimed at patients.

For more details on the Primary Care workplan for our Network please contact our GP Adviser, Dr Bruce Eden or general comments can be made on the contact us page
